This Fjords and Coastal Towns of Norway cruise on board Balmoral is a delightful way to see the stunning scenery this country has to offer; and with a range of optional tours available, you can tailor your cruise holiday to meet your particular interests.

Beautiful Flam is your first port of call, with many pastimes on offer, including exploring one of Norway’s oldest churches with it’s traditionally decorated walls, taking a journey on the Flam Railway, which climbs almost a thousand metres up through magnificent scenery, pausing at the breathtaking Kjosfossen Waterfall; or learning about the railway’s design and construction at the Flåmsbana Museum.

Journey through the dramatic Nordfjord to visit your next, equally picturesque port of call, Olden.  Bordered on three sides by the largest glacier in mainland Europe, the Jostedal Glacier. For a view of the glacier with a difference, why not try a helicopter sightseeing tour?

Bergen is a city of contrasts, from the timber-clad houses along the waterfront, famous fish market and museums, to a buzzing social life.  The final stop on this cruise holiday is Stavanger, which was transformed into a vibrant and exciting city, earning the 2008 European Capital of Culture title. The old town, Gamle Stavanger is a delight to explore, with winding streets and ancient wooden houses congregated around the market.

Join Balmoral for this cruise from Southampton to the exciting Baltic Cities,  visiting Estonia, Finland, Russia and Denmark.  With a range of optional shore tours available, you will have the opportunity to personalise your trip to suit your cruise holiday needs.

Tallinn combines the comforts of the modern world with rich culture and historic settings, making it an intriguing place to explore. Stroll along the cobbled streets and marvel at the houses dating back as far as the 11th century in the Old Town, visit the ornate Alexander Nevskij Cathedral; or venture into the new part of the city and take a walk in Kadriorg Park, or enjoy a coffee in Pirita Yacht Harbour, giving you the best view over the bay.

Your cruise ship continues on to Helsinki for the first of three overnight stays. Known for being ‘pocket-sized’, it was recreated by the tsars of Russia as a miniature St. Petersburg, and everything is within easy reach. If you can, don’t miss the Fazer Café and confectioner, which many locals claim is as important to visit as any museum there, as the original art deco interior and solid marble floors are the perfect environment in which to enjoy the unique cakes and pastries. The Russian Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral, with its distinctive domed roof, dominates the city’s skyline, and is well worth a visit to see the rich display of artefacts and impressive array of chandeliers hanging from the vaulted ceiling.

Your next overnight stay is in St. Petersburg, giving you plenty of time to see all that this great city has to offer. The opulent Hermitage has to be seen to be believed, and houses an impressive set of priceless works by Rembrandt, Michaelangelo and Rubens. The gardens of the Peterhof are stunning, particularly when the fountains are in full flow, and no visit to St. Petersburg is complete without a visit to either the ballet or the opera.

With an overnight stay in the royal city of Copenhagen, home to the world’s oldest monarchy, you will find numerous castles, palaces and royal statues. Every day you can see the changing of the Royal Danish Guard as they leave their barracks at Rosenborg Castle at about 1130, and march through the city to Amalienborg Palace. Of course, the Little Mermaid is synonymous with Copenhagen, and at Langeline Pier you will see her welcoming sailors into the city harbour; on 23 August 2013 she will be 100 years old. For the adventurous, visit Tivoli Gardens and brave the white-knuckle rides; or take time out to admire the lakes, fountains and flowers.

Discover France, Spain and Guernsey on this 2014 cruise from Southampton.  With a variety of shore tours available, you have the option to tailor your cruise holiday to meet your needs.

From La Pallice, enjoy our tour of La Rochelle’s arcaded streets, ancient wooden houses and stately mansions. This well-preserved city also has a bustling fishing harbour, and excellent shops and restaurants.

No visit to Bilbao is complete without a visit to the Guggenheim Museum, but before venturing inside, take a walk around the perimeter to take in just how spectacular the building is. Travel slightly further afield, and admire the surrounding Alamedas, or take a tour of the Basque coastline.

After a stop at Gijon in Spain, your cruise ship continues on to St. Peter Port in Guernsey, giving you the opportunity to discover its unique history. A quaint and charming town, there is a mix of tiered gardens, stylish shops and chic cafés. Castle Cornet has stood guard over the town for 800 years. Once cut off by the tide, it now provides a spectacular backdrop to the town as well as occasionally staging theatre productions and musical events. The Old Quarter here is well worth a visit, with its eclectic mix of antique shops and locally made crafts, of course all of which are competitively priced, as the duty rates are lower than in the UK.

Back by popular demand, Talon will be joining this week long cruise. The band will be performing ‘The Acousitc Collection’ on 3 separate evenings during the cruise duration, where guests will also be treated to their trade mark laid back banter, exquisite 4 part harmony all to their favourite acoustic songs and of course a few Eagles classics. On the remaining 4 nights our entertainment programme will resume as normal.
